How to make the perfect Mojito

Cocktail making always takes me back to the time when I was at uni and working in a nightclub on the weekends. At one time, I had to remember 21 cocktail recipes. 21!!!! Needless to say, I was absolutely hopeless at getting the ingredients right, I usually just charmed my way through the often wrongly mixed creations.

One cocktail I absolutely nailed, however, was a good old Mojito, so I wanted to share the recipe with you guys. I suggest you get your hands on a cocktail set, it makes life that much easier and looks pretty cool in your kitchen.

So, here it goes:

Grab:

  • A tall glass
  • A long spoon
  • A straw
  • A cocktail muddler

Ingredients:

  •  Double shot of white rum
  • ½ fresh lime
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2-3  generous spoons of sugar or sugar syrup – I prefer using brown sugar*, I prefer the taste but it’s totally up to you
  • ½ fresh lime
  • Soda water
  • Crushed ice

Get creatin’:

  1. Cut the lime into wedges, put them and the sugar into a tall glass
  2. Bruise the mint leaves in your hands to release the aroma, also add them to the ingredients in the glass
  3. Use the muddler to squish the lime juice, mint and sugar together
  4. Pour crushed ice in (up to 3/4 of the glass)
  5. Pour the white rum in
  6. Top with crushed ice, add a dash of soda water and give it a good stir
  7. Garnish with mint and a straw

* Use brown sugar and dark rum to make a Dirty Mojito
